During my senior year at The Williston Northampton School, I wrote many articles for The Willistonian, the oldest continuously published high school newspaper in America. My articles ranged from pressing current events to local school news.

Noura Hussein, a 19-year-old Sudanese woman, is sentenced to death for fatally stabbing the man her father forced her to marry.

“Jordan Strum Celebrates 500th Strikeout” (5/11/18)

Jordan Strum, the senior pitcher for the Girls Varsity Softball team, has been playing softball since she was little. That’s no different than millions of other athletes all across the country.

“‘This Is America’ Video Takes Nation by Storm” (5/8/18)

On May 5, 2018, Donald Glover took the Internet by storm with the release of his new single and accompanying music video, “This Is America.” Since its premiere, it has accumulated over 35 million views (at press time) on Youtube.

“Shana Hecht Beats the Odds, and the Competition, in Quest to Play College Lacrosse” (12/3/17)

Only 13% of female lacrosse players successfully make the leap from their high school to college teams, according to the NCAA. Even rarer, at only 3.8%, is getting the opportunity to playing lacrosse for a Division 1 school. Shana Hecht has conquered both odds and is headed to play Division 1 lacrosse next year at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

“Kevin Spacey Under Fire for Sexual Assault Accusations” (11/10/17)

The recent allegations surrounding Hollywood professionals have continued to grow, most notably the accusations against actor Kevin Spacey.

“If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet,” tweeted Hollywood actor Alyssa Milano on October 15, 2017.

“NFL Anthem Controversy Continues” (10/29/17)

The conversation around free speech and football started last year by Colin Kaepernick has reignited, and now it’s pitting the NFL against the President, with the National Anthem in the middle.

“Williston Dance Ensemble Leaps Into the Spotlight” (10/28/17)

The Williston dance ensemble’s fall concert “Catch Me When…” is set to impress the student body with its variety of pieces and energetic dancers. The dance ensemble consists of 22 dancers, with each dancer bringing their own personal style and talent to the stage.

“Trump Administration Imposes Birth Control Restrictions” (10/26/17)

Issues surrounding birth control and its access have installed a sense of fear and confusion in many American women.

Williston prides itself on its 20% international student population, and The Willistonian wondered what it’s like to be a part of this extraordinarily diverse and interesting group. There are over 30 different countries represented at Williston, but only one student from Italy.

The fall play, “Our Town,” is set to impress Williston’s student body this October. “Our Town,” by Thornton Wilder, is a well-regarded production revolving around the themes of human life and companionship.
